The bus 661 departs at 11:30 from Information

centre at Reykjahlíð village, drives up to the explosion crater Víti, passing the sulphurous mud pots at Hverarönd. From Víti it continues through large lava terrains to Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall.

After about one hours stop, you change in to

a connecting bus, 641A, continuing to Hljóðaklettar, Echoing cliffs, where you can enjoy a stroll among the basaltic columns washed clean by vast floods in the glacial river some thousands years back.

The bus stops also in the horseshoe shaped fortress Ásbyrgi before continuing to the fishing village Húsavík, noted to be the whale watching capital of Iceland. Here you change busses again, now into 650A, which takes you back to Lake Mývatn.

Note: See connection routes 661 - 641a - 650a.
